The development of multilayer optics for steering, spectral filtering and dispersion control of sub-femtosecond soft X-ray pulses are based on broad-bandwidth a-periodic multilayer systems of binary or ternary stacks of nanolayers of various materials, with layer thickness ranging from 1 to 10 nm and layer numbers ranging from ~10 to ~1000. Our research goal is to control the temporal and spectral properties of the pulses in the soft X-ray range upon reflection from these multilayer optics with very high precision in wavelength and spectral phase as well as high efficiency. more

Photoelectron Emission Microscopy (PEEM) is a surface sensitive tool to study topography, elemental or chemical properties, electronic band structure or surface fields (electrical, magnetic) on a nano-scale. It is utilizing ultraviolet or soft X-ray excitation to liberate photoelectrons, whose spatial emission distribution or angular distribution can be imaged by a high resolution imaging electron microscope. more

Nanofocusing of the High Harmonic soft X-ray pulses to nanospots with large focused intensities is a pre-requisite for nano-spectroscopy and nano-imaging using ultrashort soft X-ray pulses. We are developing diffractive soft X-ray optics based on reflective or transmissive zoneplate structures optimized for focusing or imaging with spectrally selected High Harmonics. Further research is performed towards achromatic broad-band diffractive nanooptics for focusing of attosecond soft X-ray pulses. more
